How to Generate an ISBN Bar Code for your Book
The ISBN bar code is required in the publishing industry. All books display the code on the back cover. The purpose of the code is to encode the ISBN number and book price in a scannable format.
The Bookland EAN Bar Code is used by distributors, booksellers and wholesalers for tracking and sales purposes. Booksellers use it on checkout to record the sale.
In the sample above
'978' - specifies that this is a bookland bar code
'09780941831390' - The ISBN Number with the EAN check digit 0
'51295' - 5 represents the United States. '1295' is the retail price of $12.95 for the book.
There are several bar code printing software packages available for the self publisher that can create the Bookland code. Keep in mind you also need to verify that it works with all forms of scanning equipment used in the publishing industry. Your Cover Design Artist can usually generate the code for a small fee.
